' I The meeting was held at Central Methodist church, where dinner was served by the Woman's Society of Christian Service. Mr. Preoaley discussed "middle enthusiasm" in developing "into the man I meant to be." He praised the work, of civic clubs in developing mankind morally and spiritually in rendering service, stating, "Service clubs offer onnortu. nity Of the full-rounded development of mankind." By work of this type, he said, "t6? can realise that you are growing more like the man you meant took.? morally, Intellectually, and spiritually." Miss. Companies announcing the increas es were Phenix plant of Burlongton Mils, Inc., Craftspun, Inc (Cora mill), Neisler Mills, Inc., Park Yarn Mills, Inc., Craftspun, Inc., (Cora in VYi'i lain H' ii r..? i*. no mention of a new Ttinimum wage, the 10 percent approximate increase win establish a virtual mln lmum of 80 cents per hour, exactly twice the former minimum of 40 > cents In effect In 1941-42, and a 15c > per hour increase over wages prei vailing at this time a year ago. Carl Mauney, of Mauney Mills company, said no announcement was available on Wednesday but he indicated that wage Increases are probable. Aubrey Mauney, of Kings Moun. tain Manufacturing company, said his company had handled wage increases "through a production bonus system already In effect" and he Indicated that through this system wages at this plant would compare favorably with new scales of other local plants. Increase at the Phenlx Mill was effective Monday, February 10, as It was at DuCourt, while Z. F. Cranford, superintendent of Craftspun, Inc., said the increase was effective last Monday at that plant. The Park Yarn Increase was effective ,4 February 17, and Nelsler announced the Increase, effective Monday, February 24, at all their plants.
